My task is simple: I seek out interesting people on campus, get to know them, and then report back to the world via the blogosphere. This, ladies and gentlemen, is one of several reports. Feel free to comment on my attempt at witty and poignant bylines.
I sat down the other day with second-year JD student Mitchell Bragg for an impromptu interview. Bragg comes from Arcade, NY, which sits to the southeast of Buffalo, and he credits his family with building a supportive environment in which to pursue his goals.
In 2002, Mitch entered Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY where he participated in a hybrid degree program. The program, called Arete, was fashioned on principles from ancient Greece that emphasized virtue and individual excellence. He took courses across multiple disciplines and in 2006 graduated with two Bachelor degrees in Business and Technology Management, and Political Science. It was during his time at Clarkson that the idea of attending law school started to take shape.
Franklin Pierce Law Center seemed like a natural choice for Mitch. Here he could explore his interests in intellectual property and public interest law. Though slightly disappointed that he isn't eligible to sit for the Patent Bar, Mitch hasn't let that slow him down. After being embraced by the Pierce Law community during his first year, he became involved with the Entertainment Law Society and the Public Interest Coalition and he now holds leadership positions in both organizations.
Mitch spent this past summer interning at New Hampshire Legal Assistance which provides legal assistance to senior citizens and low-income families. He referenced this experience often during our discussing as it reminded him of the legal professions ability to give back to the public. It was pretty clear that Mitch was immensely pleased at having been able to help people in need.
So what's next for Mitch? He's currently searching for a Summer Associate position that allows him to experience soft IP (copyright, trademarks, e.g.) in a firm setting.
Mitchell Bragg: taking law school by the horns and making it work for him.
