Pierce Law Celebrates Inauguration

oath-cp-w6118666.jpgMuch like the scene at the National Mall yesterday, space was at a premium in the Jury Box Cafe as students and faculty came to watch the inauguration of President Barack Obama. As part of the celebration, Chad and company offered free Green Mountain Coffee all day and there was a lunch buffet for all to enjoy. Red, white, and blue balloons and bunting could be found throughout the school.

But the main attraction was the opportunity to watch the inauguration. After the President took the oath of office (albeit with minor flubbing by him and Chief Justice John Roberts), many in the crowd clapped and cheered with excitement. Many had shirts and pins bearing President Obama. One student had a t-shirt that said "Obama's gonna knock you out." There were students who volunteered for the President on the campaign, and pleased to see the hard work pay off. There were also students that did not vote for Obama, but appreciated the history of inaugurating America's first African-American President.

One person in attendance had the opportunity to be at the inauguration. Dean John Hutson stayed in Concord and watched the inauguration in the Jury Box. His framed invitation was displayed prominently on Jan's desk throughout the day.

Conversely, Professor Peter Wright flew down and attended the ceremony. While he said the crowds were overwhelming, Professor Wright had great seats for the inauguration and was happy to be in the nation's capitol.

Even with the craziness that comes with the beginning of a new semester, the Pierce Law community came together to celebrate history and the peaceful transition of power.
