Opening Day is almost here!

Just one weekend left before the start of fall classes. The new classrooms are nearly complete, and painters put a fresh coat of paint on the front of the school this week.

Final touches

Even if you are one of those enrolled in Legal Skills I you can enjoy the weekend because you've already finished your first assignments... right? Did you write your short essay about your favorite food or favorite vacation?

Time to head out on a hike. See you all early Monday morning. I hear the muffins in the new Jury Box Cafe are delicious, so you may want to stop by and get one before your first class.

Introducing the graduate class of 2008

To help orient them to life in New Hampshire, the graduate Class of 2008 visited the New Hampshire Supreme Court this week before embarking on an afternoon excursion on Lake Winnipesaukee. The Reporter is pleased to welcome our new class of graduate students!

Welcome Class of 2010!

The Class of 2010 gets sworn inThe JD Class of 2010 was sworn in with the Oath of Professionalism by New Hampshire Supreme Court Chief Justice John Broderick yesterday afternoon.

Welcoming the class a day earlier, Assistant Dean for Admissions Katie McDonald channeled her inner Dr. Seuss, and we're delighted to reprint her poem for the Class of 2010 (with permission, of course!):

Welcome, Class of 2010, you’ve made it, you’re here;
On this historic first day, we hope you’ll put aside your fear.

You’re surrounded by people who are much like you:
You are all anxious and eager, and taking a big chance, too.

There are 141 of you, ages 20 to 50;
With 3 years of tuition ahead, together, you’ll learn to be thrifty.

You’re from 30 states, 99 colleges, a wide range of jobs, and 10 countries;
You were born in Sweden, Russia, Nigeria, Hong Kong, Germany, and spent semesters at sea.

You are volleyballers, snowboarders and skiers; you sail and you swim;
Play Frisbee, tennis, and golf, and that’s just the women.

We have fencers and coaches, kiteboarders and wakeboarders, cyclists, dancers, and more:
You play dodgeball, baseball, hockey and football, and games I don’t know how to score.

You speak many languages; you’ve hiked mountains in Nepal,
Some of your families arrived in this country with nothing at all.

You’ve worked for NASA, designed a monkey feeder; you’ve overcome disabilities galore;
You’ve studied all over the world; you’ve been homeless and well cared for.

You are Eagle Scouts and Gold Award Girl Scouts, bartenders and actors;
Bankers and teachers, and farmers with tractors.

Musicians a-plenty: violin and many guitarists, to boot;
You play banjo, piano, drums, and the flute.

You are accomplished in life, with academic recognition;
You are computer engineers and lifeguards, and a dog kennel technician.

You serve mankind well; you’ve helped homeless, hungry, lonely, and more;
You’ve built Habitat Houses, raised funds for good causes; you’ve been Americorps.

You are business owners, sky divers, produce films, studied in Greece;
You are fire fighters, Marines, Army, Navy and local police.

You paint; you ride horses, produce plays, and some are much bolder;
You are mothers and fathers, composers, journalists, and a designer of a toilet bowl brush holder.

Now you begin, and we send you on your way.
We wish you the best, and, to Hyo Jung Kim, happy birthday!

Will you recognize Pierce Law?

Saws and hammers are the summer sounds at Pierce Law. Extensive renovations to our main building might spur returning 2Ls and 3Ls to ask for their own orientation.
