Lights, Camera, Action....

theater masksLaw school is all about case briefs and outlines, right? WRONG! FPLC has dozens of organizations that offer students the opportunity to learn about the legal profession, serve the community, meet new people, and HAVE FUN!  Throughout the semester, the Reporter will be spotlighting various organizations to let you know who they are, what they do, and why YOU should check it out.

This week, we look at the Entertainment Law Society.  The purpose of the Entertainment Law Society is to promote an understanding and appreciation of the legal  structure of the motion picture, music, and theatrical industries. The Entertainment Law Society intends to familiarize law students with the intellectual property rights and contractual relationships between the media producers, distributors, and authors of these industries as well as the deal making and advising aspects of practice in the greater entertainment field. The Entertainment Law Society aims to accomplish this by sponsoring extracurricular programs such as guest lectures from experts in entertainment law, career planning seminars to aid students entering this field, and forums for interaction and communication between current students, faculty, and alumni from various backgrounds in intellectual property law.

Got Bagels?

HillelThis past week the Pierce chapter of Hillel had its inaugural meeting, regarded by returning members as possibly the organization's 'biggest meeting ever.'

Both new and old members gathered for a lunch of cheese pizza for introductions and a discussion of the group's planned activities.

On the schedule for is 'bagel brunch' to be held just before the start of finals each semester where students can gather for a relaxing breakfast featuring the popluar bagel and maybe even lox and cream cheese.  This year's brunch could also include a guest speaker or two on a yet to be determined topic!  Another popular even is a Passover seder, where students can sit down to a full meal inspired by Jewish tradition.

All Pierce students are invited to attend any Hillel event, regardless of religion.

BLSA Moot Court Wins Best Brief!!!

I want to commend our competitors in the recent Frederick Douglas Moot Court competition,
Joeann Walker and Jennifer Reed.

This is the first year we have sent to that competition, and they represented us admirably. They won Best Petitioner's Brief over all the law schools represented from the Northeast including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Cornell. This is an outstanding achievement. Thank you and congratulations, Joeann and Jennifer.

Barrister's Ball 2007

It's that time again!!! BARRISTER'S BALL 2007 IS HERE!!!

The SBA Board of Governors is accepting applications from interested students to join the 2007 Barrister's Ball Planning Committee.

For those new to FPLC, Barrister's Ball is the annual "Law School Prom" held each Spring to celebrate the end of the school term (and for some, the end of law school). This is the time for everyone to get dressed up, enjoy great food, each other's company, and have a fantastic time!

This year, Barrister's Ball will be held at the Capital Arts Center on Friday, April 13th, 2007.
The planning committee will be responsible for organizing all aspects of the event including catering (hiring a caterer, not actually making the food), theme/decorations, music, entertainment, tickets, etc.

The event can only be as good as the people planning it, so we are looking for organized, motivated, creative go-getters who can have fun while planning a large party!

Anyone interested in being a part of the planning committee for Barrister's Ball, please email the SBA Treasurer, Adam Muller, at sba-treasurer@piercelaw.edu no later than 5pm on Friday, February 2nd.
